So did your carrier ever catch the additional data usage? I've been thinking about doing this exact thing, but I definitely want to play it safe. Tethering once a month, maybe, isn't worth the $60/mo they want for their tethering suite ... so I kinda want to violate T&C to do this!

really interesting article as i've just bought an ipod touch and am looking to tether it to my E71. I'm happy to buy the Joiku software (if it works) so would the "paid" version obviate the issues you mention as follows?

"Thanks to this great tethering application, I can now use my iPod Touch with internet acces pretty much wherever I go! I just need to be careful that nobody connects to my own little network as well- as I’m not planning on buying the full version anytime soon (I think I have bought enough software at the moment). That also means I won’t be able to use any application besides Safari Mobile, so no App Store, iTunes Store (mainly for podcasts) and apps like Twitter clients."

Look forward to your comments and nice work with the article,
kind regards

Hi,
I just bought a iGo Ultra Slim Bluetooth Keyboard. I have been reading this forum and am wondering if I am going to have problems connecting with my HTC Touch. It has WM 6.1. Can you tell me just how exactly to do everything step by step? I would really appreciate it because I expect to use this keyboard as soon as I get it. Im just hoping I know how so if you could please help me out it would be greatly appreciated.

Yawn. So poor.

They stopped making drivers for it in 2008.

The last os they made it for was Symbian OS 9. .1 , .2 and latter are not supported.

To put it in discoverable mode, press left control, Blue function + Green Fn for a few seconds. Their will be a green led that will blink.

To pair with it, your pc or whatever will send a password, and you type it by holding function and typing the key combination.
Surely the Open source crowd

Same problem. I have an HTC Tilt and a Palm Bluetooth Keyboard. I can pair it by clicking next when it first asks for the password. Then hitting cancel when it asks for a password a second time. But then the keyboard doesn't seem to do anything. I've tried all drivers at freedominput.com. Here's a link to the keyboard I have:

I wonder about twittering, but so many people use it, that it is something that you need to investigate. The problem with these things is that you need to invite the people you want to twitter with, or you don't communicate as well with them. You could always use the phone I guess, or is that too radical an idea?

Dan, there are still keyboards out there to be bought, even if the manufacturer doesn't sell them anymore. I saw this keyboard for sale on Amazon.com and on eBay and other places.

If you still have the driver cd from your original purchase, or know how to download the relevant driver, you just need to buy another keyboard and you're all set.

I don't know if Word Mobile 6 is a problem, but apparently you just need a replacement keyboard for the one you broke.

I plan to buy a HTC HD cell phone and either the igo keyboard or the new Freedom Universal one (but that's heavy and bulky).

What bothers me about both of them is the split space bar, because my thumb comes down right on that spot when spacing. Maybe I can just put some tape there to cover the gap.

 Good luck.

hello,

im somewhat confused about the connectivity with this keyboard. do you have to install the drivers for it to work? or can you just pair it with your phone? and i see that your using a touch with it, so im guessing that it supports phones with windows mobile 6?

and is the "think outside stowaway" and the "igo stowaway" the same?

thanks,

Hey, Luca! Glad to see you're on Twitter! I use Twibble and it works great for me. Wished there were more clients for the Symbian S60 OS but I'm not complaining. The main thing for me is to be updated on new tweets and that works so I'm okay with it.

I too am saddened by this news. I am so impressed by this keyboard. I have owned one for around 8 months and my productivity has been incredible. My problems have arrived before I buy a WM6 device because I dropped it on a hard surface and now some of the keys don't work! I thought - I'll just buy a new one, it's worth it - then found out they're no longer available.

I can only hope another manufacturer will buy this design from iGo and work out how to bring it back to market!

It is sweet! Aside from the QWERTY keys (I plan to use a wireless BT keyboard), I think it is very close to what I'm personally looking for. I love how it's fully capable of doing a lot of tasks that my Treo 750 can't do. I love the built-in Wi-Fi that doesn't time out and being able to easily blog, ftp and do a lot of blogging tasks on the E71. I still have not gotten one yet but likely will sometime this year.

Looking forward to your comments and review.

Supposedly, Apple builds what Steve Jobs wants. Nothing more, nothing less. Apple buyers are generally ignored and learn to cope with whatever is handed down from Mt. Apple. I've been an Apple user since the first Macintosh 128 and have put up with those policies. I'll continue to do it for many more years. It's a waste of time griping since if I don't like it, I can buy some other brand. I have no intentions of switching brands at the present time.

Apple targets 80% of consumers. The ones complaining are the ones at the low end or the ones wanting every bell and whistle.

Apple also keeps strongly in mind the user interface, design, and the future. It always pushes forward.

Apple also is mandated to make profit. Its products make at least 30 % profit. Thus a cheap product with hardly any profit - like the cheap netbooks in the market - does not fit Apple's profile. A larger version of the iPhone would fit. This would be very inexpensive to make yet fill the need for Apple to make at least 30% profit. Note that the iPhone and iPod Touch make Apple about 50% profit.

Never been a fan of macs in any form. we have 5 mac minis at work were has system admin am in charge of them. i tried getting used to it and biting into all all the hype. god knows i really tried. other than use itunes to manage some of my podcasts i found it very restricted, like i was in a cage. i still dont get it when pple say its easy to use because it took some times figuring out a lot of things. i run ubuntu linux on all my computers so maybe am spoit with the package managements and the gnome interface which i feel is more easier to get used to than the mac interface. in the end i keep all the macs locked up in the store because nobody uses them.
